"Let's Talk Salt" was born from Salzkammergut region during European Capital of Culture in 2024, under the framework of Bioregional Assembly. Later we continued developing the project and received a grant from Flucc under the program Ökologien befragen (Questioning Ecologies). "Let's Talk Salt" carried out its third iteration in Vienna.
Through this project, we formed the collective SALIVA with Charly Schneider and Deepshikha Pegu, to further explore food as a medium for storytelling.
"Let's Talk Salt" in Gmunden
‘Let's talk Salt’ took place in Gmunden during
the European Capital of Culture in the
Salzkammergut region in September 2024.
The program’s motto — "Culture is the New
Salt” — refers to the cultural history of the
region, where salt played a crucial role in
generating wealth in the area. As the inlet to
the Traunsee, Gmunden served as a gateway
during the salt trade period. Conversely,
Gmunden, part of the Cultural Capital this
year, has opened its door to the world to
integrate new cultural imagination.

as part of Ökologien befragen (Questioning Ecologies)
Let’s Talk Salt returns for its third iteration—an ongoing artistic
inquiry into the ecological, emotional, and colonial entanglements of salt.
This edition continues to question systems of preservation, extraction, and metabolism throughsensorial installation, dialogue, and collective reflection.

Expanding the conversation, we designed a workshop - “Let’s Talk Milk” - to explore milk as a drinkable archive of kinship, domestication, and bodily memory. Together, both formats function as sites of “drinkable research,” where taste, care, and conversation intermingle.
